On May 17th the The New Music Seminar announced the results of this years “Artist On The Verge – Top 100 Chart”. Tommy Boy has partnered with the seminar to offer two collections featuring 26 of the artists from the Top 100. This is the first of what will be an annual release.

Whereas most charts just measure sales of pre-recorded music according to SoundScan and others strictly by the artists’ social media activity, the AOV Top 100 are chosen by what artists are showing the greatest chance of success to break through nationally based on music sales and promotional giveaways (legal or illegal including retail and downloads), touring history, merchandise sales, media (both online and print), social media activity and other factors as determined by the NMS Music Committee. The AOV Top 100 represents the top artists, regardless of genre, that have the largest chance of success.
The artists selected must have met the criteria of never having been on a major or major independent label* and reside within the United States. Additional criteria used by the NMS Music Committee and our Partners for selecting artists are as follows:
• Quality and uniqueness of the songs
• Quality and uniqueness of the production and recording
• Quality and uniqueness of the live show
• Quality and uniqueness of artist image, concept, and platform
• Artist career momentum. What is their buzz?
• Social media and other activity on Facebook, Twitter, ReverbNation, OurStage and other music and fan sites
• Analytics performed by Musicmetric & Next Big Sound
NMS then compiles all this data and compiles the “Artist On The Verge – Top 100 Chart” in which artists are displayed in no particular order or genre.
